The Daily Memo | November 13, 2020 | Surviving Drought

In April 2019, a suburban neighborhood in Victorville, California, became buried in tumbleweeds. High winds pushed the rolling thistles into the development from the adjacent Mojave Desert where the plant grows. At maturity, the pesky weed can grow to up to six feet in height—a formidable size when it releases itself from its roots to “tumble” with the wind to scatter its seeds. Tumbleweeds are what I picture when I read Jeremiah’s description of a…

    Come Away With Me

Can you feel it?  Do you sense it?  Can you hear it?  In the midst of the cacophony that surrounds us...  In the midst of the pressure and business of daily life...  In the midst of the emotional upheaval and unrest of this season... Are you hearing God's invitation?  Can you feel that deep, quiet, persistent knock on the door of your heart? Come away with me.  This beautiful, intimate, blessed invitation is extended to each and every…

The Daily Memo | November 12, 2020 | Sleepwalking Through Life

John Spillane is a para-rescue jumper sent into the North Atlantic, into the worst storm of the twentieth century, the perfect storm, as the book and film called it, to rescue a fisherman lost at sea. When his helicopter goes down, he is forced to jump into pitch blackness from an unknown height, and when he hits the water, he’s going so fast it’s like hitting the pavement from eighty feet above. He is dazed and confused—just as we are when it comes to the…

The Daily Memo | November 11, 2020 | Listening Through Restlessness

When we’re too preoccupied to hear God’s voice, He may get our attention by giving us a restless spirit. The book of Esther gives us a wonderful example of this. In the sixth chapter, we see that King Ahasuerus “could not sleep so he gave an order to bring the book of records, the chronicles, and they were read before the king” (Est. 6:1). As a result, Ahasuerus became aware of an assassination plot that had been foiled by a man named Mordecai.…

The Daily Memo | November 10, 2020 | Seducing the Church

So much of the church desiring to be palatable to a broken culture wants to lower standards today so that worldly people feel comfortable coming into the “body”. Allowing that to occur, Christians are then seduced into worldly morality and compromised in an effort to be relevant. It is nonsense and I’m calling it out. The church is not a democracy or permissive society, it’s a blood-bought family of Believers. The Holy Ghost fills us - not the…

The Daily Memo | November 9, 2020 | Reasons To Trust

It’s easy to trust God when life is pleasant. In difficult times, though, it can be challenging. Yet that’s exactly what God tells us to do: “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you” (Psalm 50:15). We can trust the Lord for several reasons. One is because of His love for us. We see it clearly demonstrated through the Father’s character, Jesus’ atoning death, and our adoption as a child of God. Another reason we can rely on…

The Daily Memo | November 5, 2020 | How God Speaks to You

Fyodor was a wild young man. His life revolved around eating, drinking, talking, music, theatre and the company of women. He dreamt of fame. He was caught up in a movement for political and social reform in Russia during the repressive reign of Tsar Nicholas I. He was arrested, tried and condemned to be executed. On a bitterly cold morning, the prisoners were taken out to be shot. The prison guards raised their muskets to their shoulders and took aim. At the last moment, a…

The Daily Memo | November 4, 2020 | You, My Friend, Have an Enemy

I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, O guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones. (Ezekiel 28:16) So evil entered the Story. I am staggered by the level of naïveté that most people live with regarding evil. They don't take it seriously. They don't live as though the Story has a Villain. Not the devil prancing about in red tights, carrying a pitchfork, but the incarnation of the very worst of every enemy you've met…
