    Hearing God's Voice

Here we go again. Another one of those mornings when I wake up, put on a few audio devotionals and hear God speak in parallel places. You know – when the exact message is delivered to your “inbox” and you just shake your head. First, it started with Craig Denison, from First 15. The topic for the day was hearing from God. Posing the question, can we hear the voice of God? He went on to propose that we do so through scripture, through other people, and…

    Going to Prison

I'm both humbled and honored to be given the opportunity to serve our community through the Chaplaincy program at the Lancaster County Prison. Over 25 years ago I was informed by God that someday this would come about. Largely because of my own personal experience - looking from the inside out - not the outside in. A story for another time. Our mission at Embracing Brokenness Ministries is to focus on teaching and assisting the poor and disenfranchised - the least, the,…

    The Bummer Lamb

Every once in a while, a ewe will give birth to a lamb and reject it. There are many reasons this happens. And if that lamb is returned to the ewe, she may even kick the poor thing away. Once a ewe rejects one of her lambs, she will never change her mind. Those rejected lambs walk with their heads hanging so low it almost looks as if something is wrong with their necks. Their posture tells the story—their spirit is broken. They are called “bummer lambs.”…

The Dash on Our Tombstone and Our Short Term Missions Trip

Our time here on earth is oh-so brief compared to an eternity with our Savior. What we do with it really does matter. Colleen likens it to a short-term mission trip. When we embark on a 2-week assignment in a foreign "land" things can get a little dicey. But then again it's only 2-weeks. We can compromise our ease, comfort, and pleasure on behalf of our mission. We need to see this life that God has ordained for each of us as the same. The dash on our…

God Created Woman - Ezer Kenegdo

Do you ever wonder what your purpose is as a woman? Your identity as a woman in this world? In the book of Genesis, our purpose and true identity as a woman is revealed. I believe this Scripture is misinterpreted by a lot of people, especially women.  It is important that we understand it correctly and live up to our full potential. And the Lord God said, 'It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.' - Genesis 2:18 )…

    We Could Use Your Help

Hi everyone, I hope your Thanksgiving was a great one; enjoying your time with friends and family. We’ve decided to launch a capital campaign to help fill specific needs for technology at EBM. As I continue to teach and minister to those experiencing homelessness at Water Street Mission, soon with the Chaplaincy at Lancaster County Prison, and delivering content online - via blog, vlog, and podcasts - we find ourselves coming up short with resources required to do so.…

Your Starting Place for Prayer - Graham Cooke

Graham shares such encouraging insights into our prayer life. It doesn't need to be complicated but it IS integral to living in intimacy with Christ. The starting place is in the fact that we have an inheritance in Christ. Romans 8:17. God wants us to experience the ongoing value of being joint-heirs with Jesus as we walk through life. "We Fight This Building Every Day"

A few weeks ago I had the privilege of touring the Lancaster County Prison as part of an orientation preceding my application as a volunteer under the Chaplaincy program there. After meeting the Deputy Warden in the lobby, receiving instructions, a walk through the metal detector, and a few more passes with the wand we entered the facility. Not my first rodeo in this environment. More on that later. LCP was built in 1851. Parts of the original structure are still around…

    A Man I'll Never Be

I grew up in the ’70s. It was an odd time for music. Contrary to popular belief the genre of the era was not just Disco. Some of the best Rock n’ Roll music ever written came from that decade, including a song that I heard today.  Boston’s legendary lead singer, Brad Delp performing - A Man I’ll Never Be. Written by Tom Scholz, a fabulous musician in his own right, played lead guitar. Go online and listen in as you follow along with the lyrics.…

The Rules of This World vs. The Kingdom Rules

The world we live in operates by a different set of rules. Performance and people-pleasing top the list of attributes valued most by those establishing the "rules". When our identity gets hijacked by the values of this world it interferes with our ability to live our lives as God always intended. To accept our adoption as Child of God operating out of our true self - not the hijacked version. Finding safety in Him, Loving Him, and placing others above our own self…
